The sequel problem is that the first one already surprised you
Whatever made the original wok, you now expect. So the sequel either repeats it, and it’s flat because you saw it coming - or changes it, and half the audience is annoyed it isn’t the same.
The ones that escape usually change genre rather than scale. Bigger is the trap.
