What is something I can do in the future when I start dating again?

Back in 8th grade, I started my very first relationship. A year later he and I broke up. There was another relationship I was in and that lasted only a year and it was almost two years, it was all because of trust and communication. There was one that only lasted a week, nothing much happened. This last relationship only lasted 5 months, he had said he had saw me for my body and didn't want to keep going with this and make things worse on me and my family and that he needs to focus on himself now. I'm no longer dating and am working on myself and giving myself a better life. When I feel like myself and feel like I should start dating again, what are some things I should do for this possible relationship I might have one day?
