In a metaphorical way, a brush has painted over what humankind has known for thousands of years. The brush is evangelism and the paint is persecution via oppression. This is why the free masonic lodges are oppressed despite the good will of their fraternity. The modern city of Philadelphia in the United States has a name that roughly translates to (city of loving brotherhood) in ancient greek. This city was made by the free masons and yet, in the u.s. the masons are targeted and harassed. Brothers of the free masons in the u.s. are christian but they practice rights and rituals that are old and abnormal to modern christians (christo-facists/facist christians). You don't have to be European to be be a facist either. There are many disgusting and repulsive African facist christians in the u.s. in the current year (2026 CE). Because freemasons are misunderstood they are targeted by mainstream facists. The tragic reality is that masons are not allowed to reveal their codes and rituals to people outside of the masonic lodges according their constitution. That same constitution had that secrecy written into it so that the masons may have privacy and protection of their tradition. Instead masons are falsely accused of things they are absolutely not involved with and have no interest of involving themselves. Beyond the problems that freemasons face, other practices are targeted for being different even though these other practices are peaceful and deeply personal. The wicca have covens that keep their practices and spells in what is called a book of shadows per each wiccan coven. This is to keep their magic secret and potent that others may not abuse what they discover in their spell work. This wiccan practice is similar to the practice of masonic seclusion although wiccans do not include christians like the free masons do. I can go on but my main point here is that people are often persecuted in modern times for what they practice.
