Gallows
From the dungeon he was led
The sun shone over the horizon for his end
I heard the charge read aloud
To the ears of the silent growing crowd
Are there final words you wish to speak?
He raised his head and mine eyes he did seek
"A crime is to be punished on this day.
I shall forgive you all if one of you puts flowers on my grave."
From the gallows he held my gaze
Even as the executioner came
With noose in hand the knot was sinched tight
He fell down and his neck snapped before my sight
I cut my brother down from the rope
I held him in my arms for he gave himself to give me hope
I stole the crown and he said that it was him
He had paid the price for my sin
I bured him in the mountains above gallows hill
I place flowers, every year, up there still
On the date of when he died for me
I kneel at his grave and weep
