My parents don't approve of my boyfriend

My parents don't approve of my boyfriend due to his family background. He's 17th in his year group at school and has a stable job for a high-school student but my parents can't look past his parents background. I really love him ,tho my parents don't want him to hold me back from going overseas to study. My parents don't want me stuck here in my town and not succeed. I have a amazing talent in sport and that can get me abroad to study nursing but my parents said if he believes I'm worth it we will have to stay friends and he'll wait for me till I reach my goals. My parents want him to be able to prove he deserves me and can take care of me. I'm not sure on what to do I've talked to him about it and we don't want to break up but my parents don't really know we are dating in the first place. So what should I do? I have talked to my mom she said we can date but she isn't gonna entertain it.
