What's the best advice you've ever ignored?
"Your actions will always have consequences; you need to think before you act."
I'm aware of how common and how simple this is to hear, but when I heard it, I heard it from my grandmother when I was just a kid. I guess it was either trauma or some kind of lack of emotional bandwidth, adhd or something of the sort, but because I didn't listen, I did some very regrettable things when I was a teen, even into my early 20s.
I was more concerned about roleplay (yes, in that sense) while I was a minor, more than I was about anything else, and it's led me to have a very real hyper sexuality that I still have to this day. And that hypersexuality still leads me into some serious problematic behavior despite my coping mechanisms.
I've gotten a lot better recently, at least, and I'm in a safe enough situation that I can actually relax and get to the important parts of my mental health.
I'm a better person now that I started taking what she said seriously, and I wish I could tell her that now. I think she'd be proud of me.
