Healing the child who learned to ask for less
When I was a kid, I carried the same worn-out bag every school year. I never asked for new shoes, even when mine were already broken and dirty. I learned to ignore the embarrassment because I knew my family had more important things to worry about. So I stayed quiet, asked for less, and convinced myself that wanting less was how I could help the people I loved.
