(Please do not bring religion into this. This is not meant to be circling around any religion, this is fiction.) Revival AU: Spirits: Light Spirits decide on what they want to do once they're fully passed on. They could remain where they were sent, with no interruption whatsoever, or they could choose to become a Guardian Spirit. Typically, mortals are only able to become Light Spirits if they were an overall good person before they passed on, or if they unfortunately died young. BUT. It is possible to become a Light Spirit if you weren't originally in that role. If a mortal becomes a Darkened Spirit after they passed on, they can earn that privilege. Darkened Spirits are mostly a subcategory of both Light Spirits and Void Spirits. They're not completely sacred, but they're not a full Void Spirit either. Darkened Spirits are ex-mortals who had performed crimes, contemplated/tried taking control of others, etc, but for a good cause, during their lives. Vigilantes, in other words. There is a certain choice for this role, once they become a spirit. They could either try to earn salvation and become a Lightened/Light Spirit, OR, they can choose to fully give up. If they choose this, they are sent to the void. If they choose this, for all of eternity, they are separated from the other spirits (except other Void Spirits) and the living. Void Spirits are entirely separated from both the living and other spirits like Light, Darkened, and Guardians. They are stuck in the endless void for all of eternity. They can not leave, they do not have any choices, and they can not be redeemed under any circumstances. The three ways a mortal can become a Void Spirit are: A. Commit absolutely unforgivable actions during their time as a mortal. B. Choose, as a Darkened Spirit, to not try to be redeemed. C. If a spirit becomes a Guardian, they will become a Void Spirit if they purposely let their chosen mortal pass. Guardian Spirits are another subcategory. Guardian spirits are Light Spirits who have made the choice to protect a mortal. Light Spirits can become Guardians by visiting earth, and saving a mortal from the same death that the Light Spirit had suffered. Whether that be a car crash, sickness, etc. Once the mortal has been chosen, the halo of the Guardian now protecting them will be above their heads. These halo's are only visible to Spirits and Guardians. BUT. During about the 20 second period after the mortal has been selected to be protected, their guardian will be visible, while translucent and only able to be seen by them.
