When you're on the verge of giving up entirely, what do you do?

This isn't a "it's all over" kind of post, not exactly. My life has been incredibly stagnant for years now, especially after the death of my father. Things were already that way before he died, but now it's much more apparent. Life's been moving like molasses these days, yet time goes by so fast. I'm always stuck between just letting the days pass or trying to do something productive, but it feels like nothing matters either way. Everytime I try to progress or get somewhere, everytime I try to ask for help, I'm told, "It's okay, because when the rapture comes, none of this matters". As told to me by someone three times my age and has throughly lived life. I've barely experienced anything yet and I'm just supposed to... not try? It's very discouraging to hear what is basically, "You shouldn't even try because we'll all die anyways." I've had that mindset since I was in elementary school, I've only recently tried to wean myself away from it, but now it's all I ever hear. Why better myself if that is the case? I want to be able to help her, but I don't even know where to start, I don't even know how to help myself. It's been a depressing time trying to boost myself up enough to try while simultaneously not having anything to truly reach for. I've been so tired lately too. Even with more than enough sleep I find myself trying to get back to bed right after I wake up. I feel so pathetic and useless. I used to be productive, helpful, tried my best at least. Now I can barely get up to do anything.
